An inspiring rehabilitation environment was designed to complement the historically valuable ensemble of buildings and gardens at Pitkäniemi Psychiatric Hospital Campus. The building has been oriented and located in such a way that the surrounding landscape and views of the lake reinforce the healing process of the patients. The users took part in the overall design process during the whole project and thus the needs of the clientele could be taken into account in the best possible way.
“We did not get what we asked for, we got something much better. I had thought that we would get a pool with water in it, but we also got this great contact to nature, coloured lights, virtual and video therapy and a therapeutic, calming oasis”.
