Pitkäniemi Hospital is a typical late 19th century pavilion hospital. It is very well preserved and surrounded by beautiful gardens on a lakeside location. The ensemble consisted at its best of 29 buildings serving psychiatric care. New uses were to be found for the most valuable listed buildings that were no longer suited for their original uses and new infill was to be added containing functions like a new psychiatric emergency block.
