Marja-Vantaa

International invitational competition, 1st prize and subsequent commissions

A socially, culturally and environmentally sustainable pioneering project where, while designing a major new suburb, housing typologies and mixed use hybrids were developed. In post-competition commissions, more attention was given to the design of the central blocks as well as the public transport terminal. Developing the Colosseum as the landmark of the center of the new district, articulating the sequence of public spaces and linking the bus terminal, railway station and shopping center to them, were all important subjects of further studies. The area is now commonly known as Kivistö.
