Lutakko peninsula

2 stage open competition (47 entries) 1st prize and subsequent commission of a master plan for the area.

Lutakko peninsula is situated in the immediate vicinity of Jyväskylä city centre and was, since the beginning of the 20th century, primarily used by the wood processing industry. Ideas about making it into a modern lakeside housing area were formulated during the 1980s and the competition was held in 1989. The aim was to connect this area of 40 hectares with the city centre via bridges across the railway tracks. Lutakko was one of the first major lakeside brownfield areas to be developed in Finland. Apart from housing the competitors were also required to create, among other things, a new concert hall on the peninsula.
