Kaarela day care centre and lower primary school

The aim of this design and build competition was to find a high quality solution for a new day care centre which would include the first two primary level school classes and be built of wood. The aim was also for the building to improve the general level of the townscape in the area and take advantage of the level differences of the site. The chosen model thus provides sheltered external areas as well as subtle hints of inspiration from the existing nearby wooden residential area. The centrally situated communal dining and meeting facilities provide, together with the entrance square, an inviting sequence of public spaces.
