Housing block in Kivistö

Contractor led competition, 1st prize.

The aim of the competition was to realize innovative, memorable, flexible, and affordable apartment blocks. The primary idea is to create a harmonious and calming framework for urban life where the straightforward and strict architecture of the blocks along the streets create a protective shield for the parklike world within them. The star-shaped buildings in the centre of the composition become immersed in the park but also, at the same time, act as landmarks in the urban fabric. The concept for the 2-3 story communal housing block in the internal courtyard is a kind of “orangerie” or a set of pavilions that merge with the gardens.
