Art Museum of Estonia, Tallinn

Open international competition (233 entries), 2nd prize

The new national art museum was one of the first large-scale public building projects in newly independent Estonia. A large number of architects from many different countries answered the call to participate in an international design competition. The chosen site was a steep slope with a height difference of 30m in the close vicinity of Kadiorg Palace and its grand park. Apart from the exhibition areas, the room programme also included a library, a lecture hall, restauration spaces and storage rooms.
